Is Reformer Pilates Right for You?
Reformer Pilates is the workout of the moment, combining strengthening and toning in a low-impact class format – but is this going to be your newest fitness favourite?
A popular variation of traditional Pilates, Reformer workouts use a sliding bed with adjustable spring tension, straps and pulleys to add a new dimension of intensity to an already popular way of improving flexibility, core strength and muscle tone.
Who is Reformer Pilates right for?
The joy of reformer, particularly with our class timetable, is that due to being a low impact exercise, it really can work for everyone.
We've designed four different classes with different experiences, so there's always one to support you, no matter your starting point. The classes have varying levels of intensity and are structured around the movement in the class.
The reformer beds offer adjustable spring tension which allows everyone to customise their workout and experience the movements at a level that works for them.
The pace of a Reformer workout is also far slower than other classes, such as HIIT, as it focuses on definition of movement, stretching muscles and building strength. The nature of this means Reformer can be a well-suited type of fitness for those who may prefer this to cardio or faster paced exercise.
Is Reformer Pilates good for injury?
If you’re currently in rehabilitation for an injury, then Reformer Pilates could be the perfect way to keep your body moving through recovery to help rebuild strength.
Thanks to the low-impact nature of the workout, it can be challenging on muscles but gentle on joints, making it a great choice for those wanting to keep moving and seeing results without putting pressure on specific areas of the body.
Is Reformer Pilates good for weight loss?
If the goal is weight loss, then we recommend Reformer Pilates as part of a wider workout routine. The key to enjoying your weight loss journey is to find ways of moving that work for you, so although Reformer Pilates isn’t a big calorie burner, it is great for toning, defining and building strength, all of which are equally important in a weight loss journey.
Can Reformer Pilates support mental health?
More than just a physical experience, Reformer Pilates combines many practices that can support your mental health and allow you to leave class feeling calmer and focused.
Through specific breathwork, intense focus and controlled movement, Reformer is deemed as a form of ‘moving meditation’ that can reduce feelings of stress, ease anxiety and boost endorphins.
Reformer can work for everyone
The beauty of reformer workouts is the ability to adapt the experience to suit your needs. Whatever your goals, ability or experience, reformer fitness can slot perfectly into your routine, especially with the range of classes we've designed at Reformer by the Women's Gym.
